You can jailbreak iPhone OS 3.1.2 by creating Custom IPSW file using PwnageTool. For now, PwnageTool is available for Mac only. So, only Mac users are able to create custom firmwares. What if you’re on Windows? and do not own a Mac or don’t want to go through the PwnageTool procedure if so, this topic is for you.

Below you can download iPhone OS 3.1.2 Custom firmware for iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G and iPhone 2G. These custom firmwares are created with PwnageTool and can be restored using iTunes.

IMPORTANT

There are two types of Custom Firmwares available for download below.

ACTIVATED: This custom IPSW file is for users who want to unlock their iPhone which means they are NOT on Official Carrier only.
NOT ACTIVATED: This custom IPSW file is for users who are on Official Carrier only.

So make your choice wisely. You’ll know whether you made the right choice or not once you successfully get the Signals or could Not.

How to Install Custom Firmware:

Download the custom firmware (IPSW) (all parts) for your device from links below.
Join the splitted custom IPSW file by unpacking them:
- Mac Users: use BetterZip ( or what ever you want )
- Windows Users: use HJSplit ( or what ever you want)
Put iPhone in recovery mode. (How to put iPhone into Recovery Mode)
Press the Shift button for Windows or ALT for Mac and click restore and used the custom ipsw.
It will start restoring your iPhone which may take 10mins and will jailbreak iPhone. (iPhone 2G users are done here >Jailbreak+Unlock<. enjoy OS 3.1.2.)
iPhone 3GS and 3G users who want to unlock iPhone needs to install UltraSn0w using following guide:

How to Unlock iPhone 3GS and 3G using UltraSn0w (This works for OS 3.1.2 as well)

Once all done successfully, you can enable Tethering hack on OS 3.1.2.

Fix 16xx and 21 Error during iPhone 3.1.2 Restore in iTunes

Update your iTunes to latest version.
Try again..
Also try killing iTunes process in Task manager and iPod services after the error occurs. Reopen iTunes and try again..
Try changing the USB port the or on another system.

iPhone 3G, 2G and iPod Touch, iPod Touch 2G users can use iREB to get rid of this error:

Download iREB
Start iTunes and put your phone into DFU mode:

How to Put iPhone in DFU Mode
Now close iTunes and Start iREB on your PC/Mac.
Run the iREB. Select your device and wait for a few seconds till you get white or a red screen on your iPhone.
Open iTunes. Now press and hold left “alt” button (“Shift” button on Windows) on the keyboard and then click on “Restore” button in the iTunes. Select a custom .ipsw file and restore it. Your 16xx errors are gone.

iPhone | How to Jailbreak and Unlock Your iPhone unlocking 5.11.07 3G, 3GS Using BlackSn0w [Windows]

These are instructions on how to jailbreak and unlock your iPhone 3G and 3GS using BlackRa1n and BlackSn0w for Windows.

These instructions will work with the latest 3.1.2 firmware, the 05.11.07 baseband, and iPhones which require hactivation. If you have already jailbroken following these instructions to unlock will be easier.

For those with a new iPhone 3GS (updated Bootrom), BlackRa1n only supports a tethered jailbreak. This means that once jailbroken you should not let your battery die. If it does die you will need to reconnect it to the computer and use BlackRa1n to boot it.

Before continuing make sure you are on the 05.11.07 baseband by following this tutorial. If you are not please update your firmware to 3.1.2 using iTunes before continuing.

Step One
Open your web browser of choice and navigate to http://www.blackra1n.com. Click the Windows logo at the bottom of the screen.

Step Two
When prompted save the download to your desktop

Step Three
Then double click the blackra1n executable file from the desktop to launch the program

Step Four
Make sure your iPhone or iPod is connected to the computer then click the large make it ra1n button

Step Five
You iPhone will now be placed in recovery mode.

You will see a picture of GeoHot that replaces the regular recovery mode screen on your device.

blackra1n will run and then your device will reboot.

A popup message will appear informing you that BlackRa1n is free software and if you appreciate it you can donate to GeoHot at geohot@gmail.com.

Step Six
Once your device reboots it will be jailbroken and you will notice a blackra1n icon on the Springboard. Make sure you have an internet connection and press to launch the application.

Choose the installer application of your choice then press to select sn0w if you would like to unlock your device. Press the Install button at the top right of the screen to begin.

BlackRa1n will begin to download and install the package you selected.

If you chose to unlock device using blacksn0w you will be presented with a Post Install log for sn0w. CommCenter will be restarted and there is no need to reboot. If your carrier doesn’t support 3G then disable it. Press the Close button to continue.

Step Seven
Once complete BlackRa1n will respring your iPhone and you will find the installer package of your choice on the Springboard.

Step Eight
Once you have confirmed your installer package is working correctly you may use the Uninstall blackra1n button inside the BlackRa1n app to remove it from your springboard.
